What to ask on your venue visit before booking
Venue visit checklist for Los Angeles: lighting, sound, restrooms, kitchen, access, parking and the setup photo to ask for.
A venue visit answers what photos cannot. Photos show a room empty and lit for a shoot. A visit shows how the room feels with tables, how sound carries, where guests park, and how staff handles the change from ceremony to party.
Walk the guest path
Enter as a guest would. Check parking, entrance, restrooms, kitchen access and the path to the dance floor. Ask where elderly guests and guests with limited mobility enter, and where vendors load in. A venue that is easy for guests is easy on the day.
Ask for the setup, not the empty room
Ask to see a photo or a floor plan of the setup with a guest count close to yours. Ask where the head table, dance floor, cake table, DJ and photo area go. If the venue only shows the empty room, you are not seeing your event.
Sound, light and timing in one visit
Ask for a sound check or a clear description of the sound system. Check lighting at a time similar to your event, especially for evening events. Confirm setup hours, event hours and teardown hours, and whether setup time is included.
Leave with written answers
Leave with seated capacity in writing, what the rental includes, what is booked outside, and the date hold policy. If an answer is only verbal, ask for it by message before you decide. Written answers prevent surprises on event day.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most important thing to check on a venue visit?
Check the setup with your guest count, not the empty room. Ask for seated capacity in writing, a floor plan or a setup photo, and the path guests take from parking to tables to dance floor. Those three answers tell you more than a tour of an empty room.
Should I visit at the same time as my event?
Yes, when you can. Light, sound, parking and access feel different in the evening than at midday. A visit at a similar time shows you lighting, noise from nearby streets, and how parking works when guests actually arrive.
